What our patients are saying:
“I was down to two refills of my diabetes medication when a friend mentioned there was a new clinic in my neighborhood. That same day I drove by the address in the paper and was seen by Dr. Jill. Because of this clinic I can now take my time looking for a job and not take the first one that comes along just for insurance. Thank you again and again!”
Volunteer!![]() Volunteer Ryan Tinsel with daughter Angelina At North by Northeast, we rely entirely on volunteers to staff our weekly clinics. Many of our new patients have been looking for help for a long time and walk through our door expecting to find more obstacles to getting what they need. Seeing people leave with relief and a smile on their face makes it all worthwhile. While none of us alone can fix the problems with our health care system, we can make a real difference in people’s lives. Frequently Asked Questions About Volunteering at North by Northeast 1.What do your volunteers do?
NxNE has several positions for volunteers, depending on your skills and interest, as well as our current needs. Our Monday and Thursday evening clinics are staffed by volunteers, including:
We also occasionally have a variety of special projects for volunteers, including gardening, office help, running errands, etc. Please see below for a list of current volunteer needs. 2. How often can I volunteer? Our volunteer commitment varies, depending on the position. Currently, our clinicians (physicians and nurse practitioners), nurses and patient advocates volunteer once a month, while our front desk staff serve approximately once every six weeks. A typical Monday or Thursday evening shift is three hours; the clinic is open from 5:30pm-8:30pm, with clean-up completed by 9:00. 3. What volunteer positions are you looking to fill now? We are currently accepting volunteer applications for clinicians (MDs, DOs and NPs). At this time we are not in need of Nursing, Front Desk or Patient Advocate volunteers. However, we are working toward expanding our hours, so there will be more volunteer opportunities soon! Please continue to check back if you are interested in volunteering as a nurse, on our Front Desk or as a Patient Advocate, or read on for other volunteer opportunities… 4. How else can I give my time to help North by Northeast? In addition to the needs given above, we are always looking for volunteers to join us as a Friend of North by Northeast. Twice a year we invite our Friends to join us in projects that benefit our neighborhood – outreach, garbage pick-up, odd jobs – or the clinic – gardening, Spring cleaning, painting, inventory, etc. Additionally, as other specific projects arise for which we need volunteer help, we let this group know. If you are interested in being one of our Friends, please email our Clinic Manager, Suzy Jeffreys, at . 5. How do I apply? To apply for a specific volunteer position, download and print one of our volunteer applications below. Applications can be emailed, faxed, or mailed to the clinic (see contact numbers below). For licensed personnel: The application packets for licensed professional volunteers (MD’s, RN’s, LPN’s, and NP’s) as well as certified medical assistants contain applications for both North by Northeast and Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD). Approved MCHD volunteers are protected by the provisions of the Oregon Tort Claims Act, the same indemnification coverage provided to County employees. Applications are in Adobe PDF format and require the Adobe Reader for viewing. Contact Suzy Jeffreys at 503-287-4932 or for more information. |
